statement of intent for media 2-minute film

My two minute short film is called LOOP! Based on a girl who constantly goes through a series of loops to find out all along it was her friend who put it upon her. This will be the 2 minutes of the beginning of the first episode

Language

characters

- Helya : Persian, 15 year old, female , working class , hemosexual ,

- Arielle : Mixed race, 15 years old , female , working class, heterosexual

Setting and lighting

- bedroom setting ,  daylight to signify abnormal nature of the situation

- outside area , garden , dark to show time difference

Audience

- It's targeted towards younger teenagers. I have done this through using young characters, they are wearing vibrant colours, like blue and purple, which is commonly worn by younger teenagers. Arielle has her hair in braids, a trending and modern hairstyle. Helya has her hair in a messy curly bun which is also a hairstyle worn a lot by younger generations. The narrative focuses on the dilemma that majority young teenagers face within friendships, applying Blumbler and Kat's theory on uses and gratifications, audiences can experience a sense of familiarity as they too can connect to the characters who are experiencing friendship problems. Another aspect is surveillance, as audiences are gaining information and insights onto teenage dilemmas. The audience are vicariously experiencing the emotions associated with problematic friendships and deceit.

Representation

In most mainstream media men specifically heterosexual and white are portrayed so to subvert this stereotype, my first character Helya is a homosexual persian female. She represents minority communities such as the LGBT community and the Persian community. Homosexual females aren't commonly represented in the media along with people of Middle Eastern backgrounds.

- My second character, Arielle is a character of the BAME community, this community is underrepresented in the media and by including females of this ethnic background, the target audience widens.

- Whilst the whole episode does include male characters, both of my characters in this clip are female and they open this clip to signify the independent role of women in society and the changing norm of women not needing men consistently in their lives.

Theories

- Applying Todorov's theory of equilibrium, the disequilibrium in this clip is Helya confronting Arielle resulting in the new equilibrium of Helya taking Arielle's identity .

- Propps character theory can be portrayed here Helya is the protagonist as shes the innocent character and Arielle is the antagonist as she sets the curse on Helya.
