Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scène is a French term meaning ‘Put on Stage’. It refers to the Media language used by the producer in their media product to communicate with their audience so…everything we see on screen. We can remember what this includes using the acronym CLAMPS:
  • Costume
  • Lighting
  • Actor placement and movement
  • Make-up
  • Props
  • Setting

1) What do each of the letters in CLAMPS stand for?

. Costume

. Lighting

. actor placement and movement

. make-up

.setting

2) What TV genre is Stranger Things?

Its a horror, supernatural, mystery, supernatural and Thriller based genre

3) Choose 3 aspects of mise-en-scene (e.g. costume, lighting, setting) and write a short paragraph for each about the denotation and connotation in the opening 8 minutes of Stranger Things. What is being communicated to the audience? How does the mise-en-scene help to communicate the genre of Stranger Things?

.The lighting is very dark in all the scenes its dark, from the beginning middle to end.
.Costumes are very normal, the kids look like kids one of them had a cap on they look their part. Their clothes don't attract anything like negativity from the public or inappropriate clothes.
. Setting : The whole clip was very dark and gloomy, from the beginning to end it stays like that, especially the end. Especially the dark, terrifying  rainforest and the beginning where the doctor seems to be running away the lights turn off and the doctor is running away, but we don't know what it is.
